Who doesn’t love a good podcast? Our team is pretty obsessed, and we listen to podcasts that cover a wide variety of topics. This month we wanted to spotlight our favorite recovery podcasts. These podcasts can be a great source of encouragement and inspiration, and can help you stay on track towards your goals.
Below we give some overview about each podcast and we share our favorite episode. If you’re ready to jump right in, each podcast and highlighted episode is linked!
Champagne Problems – The Champagne Problems podcast was developed by mental health and wellness professionals Robbie Shaw, Samantha Hampson and Patrick Balsley. Patrick is the owner of Sana Counseling, and he is a longtime community partner of AIM: Advaita Integrated Medicine and Green Hill Recovery. Each brings a unique perspective to the airwaves, with the collective mission to safely allow all of us to step back and explore our own relationship with alcohol. Champagne Problems is an alcohol-centric wellness podcast. We explore all things alcohol and alcohol culture and discuss the influence they have on our psychological and physical wellness.
Our Favorite Episode: Alcohol & Anxiety with Dr. Judson Brewer
The One You Feed – The One You Feed podcast uses the parable of two wolves at battle within us as a jumping-off point for meaningful discussions about how to live skillfully amidst life’s inherent challenges. Although not specifically centered on recovery, this podcast has many gems of wisdom about the struggles we all face in life. Each week on The One You Feed podcast, the show’s host, Eric Zimmer, talks with experts such as scientists, authors, researchers, psychologists, thought leaders, spiritual teachers, and public figures about how listeners can act their way into a better, more fulfilling life. These conversations center around offering listeners powerful but practical tools that they can use in their daily lives so that they suffer less and live with more joy, love, peace and fulfillment.
“This podcast is so good, it is too hard for me to pick a favorite. On The One You Feed website, the podcasts are organized by category so it’s easy to find what you’re looking for! Check out episodes on anxiety and depression, addiction and recovery, habits and behavior change, and meditation and mindfulness.” – Tripp Johnson, Founder of AIM: Advaita Integrated Medicine and Green Hill Recovery, and Social Entrepreneur
Armchair Expert – Armchair Expert is a weekly podcast hosted by American actors Dax Shepard and Monica Padman. Each podcast features Shepard and Padman interviewing celebrities, journalists, and academics about “the messiness of being human”. Dax has over a decade of sobriety under his belt and uses that experience to provide an insightful perspective.
Our Favorite Episode: Anna Lembke
Dr. Anna Lembke is an addiction psychiatrist at Stanford. She is the bestselling author of Dopamine Nation, where she explores the exciting new scientific discoveries that explain why the relentless pursuit of pleasure leads to pain. Most important, she tells readers how to find the delicate balance between the two.
Rich Roll – Each week Rich delves deep into all things wellness with some of the brightest and most forward thinking, paradigm busting minds in health, fitness, nutrition, art, entertainment, entrepreneurship & spirituality. Intimate, deep and often intense, these are not interviews. They are conversations. A weekly aural dance designed to provoke, educate, inspire and empower you to discover, uncover, unlock and unleash your best, most authentic self.
“Charlie is a local legend- he resides in Durham. This pod is one I regularly listen to, but this episode is just fantastic! It is definitely one of my favorites.” – Tripp Johnson
Hopestream – Hopestream is the empathetic and informative partner at your side as you wrestle with the challenges of having a child experimenting with or addicted to substances, in treatment or early recovery. You’ll hear from experts, parents, siblings, and me with heartfelt messages about ways to cope, stay sane, learn helpful tools and find hope. Hosted by Brenda Zane, a mother whose own son wrestled with addiction.
Our Favorite Episode: A Simple Parenting Tool That Helped Save My Sanity and Influenced My Addicted Son
We LOVE CRAFT and a lot of our programming at Green Hill and AIM is based on this framework, so of course we love this episode! This is definitely one that we recommend to parents who are navigating the murky waters of addiction.
Mindset Mentor – The Mindset Mentor podcast is designed for anyone desiring motivation, direction, and focus in life. In this podcast, Rob blends neurology, neurobiology, psychology, early childhood development, cognitive behavioral therapy so that you can understand the way your brain and body work together, because when you understand yourself, it makes it much easier to make a plan to change and succeed. When you master your mindset, you master your life.
Our Favorite Episode: How to Lead and Empower Others
“It’s hard to pick a favorite, as they’re all so good! This is a recent episode that I really enjoyed. It gives you a lot to think about, whether you are in a traditional leadership role or not. A lot of the episodes are very useful, whether in recovery or not, as they help you see how small shifts can lead to big changes in your life.” – Nayeli Martinez, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Coordinator at AIM: Advaita Integrated Medicine
