Jennifer J. Allran, PMHNP-BC, is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with nearly 16 years of experience. She earned both her BSN and MSN in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and began her career as an RN in the Geropsychiatry Unit at UNC Hospitals. She also holds certification in Traumatic Stress Studies through Bessel van der Kolk’s Trauma Research Foundation. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Jennifer worked in social services in roles spanning Child Protective Services, Housing, Medicaid, and staff training.
Throughout her career, Jennifer has practiced in multiple group settings and spent five years running her own private practice. She has contributed to clinical trial research and was recognized with the Academic Achievement Award in both her BSN and MSN graduating classes.
Jennifer is deeply passionate about whole-person care, which she views as revolutionary in today’s healthcare system. Her work is guided by a commitment to honesty, transparency, and the pursuit of human flourishing. She strives to see beyond symptoms, addressing meaning, purpose, hopes, dreams, regrets, and goals in collaboration with her clients. Jennifer believes psychiatry can serve a greater good when practiced with openness and wisdom, always centering the uniqueness of each individual.
Her professional philosophy is further informed by her personal experiences caring for her elderly parents, which reinforced her dedication to preserving humanity and compassion in healthcare. She approaches each client as a partner in the journey toward flourishing, while remaining mindful of her own growth and the wellbeing of her colleagues.
