If your health coverage comes through MedCost, you may already have access to mental health care — and Advaita Integrated Medicine is here to help you use it. We’re in-network with MedCost and see patients across the Triangle from our locations in Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, with telehealth available for anyone in North Carolina who prefers a virtual visit.
One thing worth knowing upfront: MedCost works a little differently than a typical insurance company. Understanding how it works can save you a lot of confusion when it comes time to use your benefits — and we’ll break that down below.
We have a diverse team of mental health professionals that can help with a variety of needs. Here’s who we have on our team:
Psychiatrists Psychiatrists are medical doctors who completed medical school and then went on to do additional specialized training in mental health. They diagnose mental health conditions, put together treatment plans, and prescribe and manage psychiatric medications.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) PMHNPs can do everything you’d expect from a psychiatrist — evaluate your symptoms, reach a diagnosis, and manage your medications. They just got there through a nursing background instead of medical school. The level of care you receive is exactly the same.
Psychiatric Physician Assistants (Psychiatric PAs) Psychiatric PAs are clinicians who have chosen to focus their careers entirely on mental health. They can assess, diagnose, and prescribe — and like everyone else on our team, they bring the same commitment to thorough, personalized care.
Therapists / Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) Our therapists work with you through evidence-based talk therapy and counseling — no medication required. Each one brings their own areas of specialty, so we can match you with someone who’s the right fit for what you’re dealing with.
We deliberately built a team with a wide range of backgrounds and specialties — because a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work in mental health care. When you come to us, we match you with the right provider for your specific situation.
MedCost isn’t an insurance company in the traditional sense — it’s more like a behind-the-scenes manager for your health benefits. Your employer is the one who actually pays for your health plan, and MedCost handles the administrative side of things, like processing claims and managing your benefits.
What that means for you is that your specific coverage, copays, and deductibles are determined by your employer — not MedCost. So two coworkers at different companies could both have a MedCost card and have completely different benefits.
The good news is that regardless of how your employer’s plan is set up, federal law requires that mental health care be covered the same way physical health care is. Here’s what’s typically included:
Psychiatry & Medication Management Psychiatric evaluations, medication check-ins, and follow-up appointments are covered under most MedCost-administered plans. Your out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific plan’s copay and deductible structure. Seeing an in-network provider like our team is the most straightforward way to keep those costs predictable. Learn More
Therapy & Counseling Individual therapy, group therapy, and family counseling are covered under most MedCost plans when tied to a diagnosable mental health condition. When you see a mental health counselor who is in-network with MedCost, you’ll typically pay only a copay per session, which usually ranges from $0–$75. How many sessions are covered may vary based on your employer’s plan. Learn More
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) TMS is an FDA-cleared, non-medication treatment for depression that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood. Coverage for TMS under MedCost-administered plans varies by employer, but it is covered when deemed medically necessary. We’ll verify your specific benefits and handle any precertification requirements before treatment begins. Learn More
Telehealth / Virtual Psychiatry Most MedCost-administered plans cover telehealth mental health visits. That means you can meet with your psychiatrist or therapist by video from anywhere in North Carolina — no commute, same quality of care.
Outpatient Programs When weekly appointments aren’t enough, more structured levels of care are available and covered under most MedCost plans when your provider recommends them:
A heads up about precertification: Because MedCost administers employer-funded plans, some services — including higher levels of care like IOP and PHP — may require precertification before coverage kicks in. Advaita Integrated Medicine handles that process on your behalf so you don’t have to.
Not sure what your MedCost plan covers? Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask specifically about your behavioral health benefits — or contact us and we’ll look into it before your first visit.
