If you’ve ever spent an afternoon on hold with your insurance company trying to figure out what’s covered, you already know how exhausting it can be to access mental health care.
At Advaita Integrated Medicine, we take that burden off your plate. We’re in-network with United Healthcare / Optum, we verify your benefits before your first visit, and we have appointments available — typically within a week.
We serve adults across the Triangle from three locations in Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, plus telehealth for anyone in North Carolina who’d rather meet virtually. Whatever you’re carrying right now, we have a provider on our team who can help.
Finding the right mental health provider isn’t just about finding someone who takes your insurance — it’s about finding the right fit for what you’re going through. Here’s who we have on our team:
Psychiatrists Psychiatrists are medical doctors who completed medical school and then went on to do additional specialized training in mental health. They diagnose mental health conditions, put together treatment plans, and prescribe and manage psychiatric medications.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) PMHNPs can do everything you’d expect from a psychiatrist — evaluate your symptoms, reach a diagnosis, and manage your medications. They just got there through a nursing background instead of medical school. The level of care you receive is exactly the same.
Psychiatric Physician Assistants (Psychiatric PAs) Psychiatric PAs are clinicians who have chosen to focus their careers entirely on mental health. They can assess, diagnose, and prescribe — and like everyone else on our team, they bring the same commitment to personalized, unhurried care.
Therapists / Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) Our therapists work with you through evidence-based talk therapy and counseling. They’re trained to help people navigate a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges, and each one brings their own areas of specialty to the table.
We didn’t build our team by accident. We sought out providers across different backgrounds, credentials, and specialties so that we could match each patient with the right person for their unique situation — not just whoever had an opening. That’s what genuinely integrated care looks like.
Yes. United Healthcare / Optum is required by federal law to cover mental health and substance use care on equal footing with physical health care. What you actually pay out of pocket will depend on your specific plan — here’s what’s typically covered:
Psychiatry & Medication Management United Healthcare covers psychiatric evaluations, medication management visits, and follow-up appointments on most plans. Your cost will depend on whether you’ve met your deductible and what your copay or coinsurance rate is. Choosing an in-network provider like our team is the most straightforward way to keep those costs predictable.
Therapy & Counseling Individual therapy, couples counseling, group therapy, and family therapy are all covered under most United Healthcare plans. Coverage for ongoing sessions is typically available for as long as your provider determines treatment is clinically necessary.
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) TMS is a non-medication, FDA-cleared treatment for depression. It works by delivering gentle magnetic pulses to specific areas of the brain that regulate mood. United Healthcare covers TMS for patients who qualify — usually those who haven’t gotten adequate relief from antidepressant medications. We handle the prior authorization process and verify your coverage before treatment starts.
Telehealth / Virtual Psychiatry United Healthcare covers telehealth mental health services on most plans. That means wherever you are in North Carolina, you can connect with one of our providers by video — same quality of care, no drive required.
Outpatient Programs When you need more than a weekly appointment but don’t need round-the-clock care, United Healthcare covers structured outpatient programs when your provider recommends them:
