At Advaita Integrated Medicine, we know that asking for help isn’t easy — and for those who’ve spent their careers in service to others, it can feel even harder. We’re a veteran-owned practice, and that’s not just a detail about our history. It shapes how we show up for every patient who walks through our doors.
We accept TRICARE and serve active duty family members, veterans, retirees, and their loved ones across the Triangle — with locations in Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill, plus telehealth for anyone in North Carolina who prefers to be seen virtually.
We’ve built a team of highly trained mental health professionals across multiple specialties — because the people we serve have a wide range of needs, and cookie-cutter care doesn’t cut it. Here’s who you’ll find on our team:
Psychiatrists Psychiatrists are medical doctors who completed medical school and then went on to do additional specialized training in mental health. They diagnose mental health conditions, put together treatment plans, and prescribe and manage psychiatric medications.
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) PMHNPs can do everything you’d expect from a psychiatrist — evaluate your symptoms, reach a diagnosis, and manage your medications. They just got there through a nursing background instead of medical school. The level of care you receive is exactly the same.
Psychiatric Physician Assistants (Psychiatric PAs) Psychiatric PAs are clinicians who have chosen to focus their careers entirely on mental health. They can assess, diagnose, and prescribe — and like everyone else on our team, they bring the same commitment to thorough, personalized care.
Therapists / Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) Our therapists work with you through evidence-based talk therapy and counseling. They’re trained to help people work through a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges — from everyday stress to trauma, grief, relationship issues, and more.
We didn’t build this team by accident. We specifically sought out providers across different backgrounds and specialties so we could match each patient with the right person for their situation. For those who’ve served, that might mean a provider with experience in the specific stressors that come with military life and transition.
Yes — TRICARE covers a broad range of mental health and substance use services. Unlike standard commercial insurance, TRICARE is a federal benefit program administered by the Department of Defense, so how it works is a little different from plans like BCBS or Aetna. Here’s what you need to know:
A note on TRICARE Coverage: Active duty service members typically need a referral from their Primary Care Manager (PCM) before seeing a civilian mental health provider. Family members and most other TRICARE beneficiaries do not need a referral to see an in-network provider. Always check your specific plan to confirm.
No session limits. TRICARE places no cap on the number of medically necessary therapy or psychiatry sessions. As long as your provider determines treatment is clinically necessary, coverage continues.
Here’s a breakdown of what TRICARE covers:
Psychiatry & Medication Management Psychiatric evaluations, medication check-ins, and follow-up visits are covered under TRICARE when medically necessary. Seeing an in-network provider like our team keeps your costs as low as possible and simplifies the process.
Therapy & Counseling TRICARE covers individual therapy sessions up to 60 minutes, family or conjoint sessions up to 90 minutes, and group therapy sessions up to 90 minutes. Coverage applies as long as treatment is tied to a diagnosable mental health condition and deemed medically necessary.
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) TMS is an FDA-cleared, non-medication treatment for depression that uses gentle magnetic pulses to target areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It’s a particularly meaningful option for patients who haven’t responded well to medication — including veterans and service members dealing with treatment-resistant depression. We’ll verify your TRICARE coverage and handle prior authorization before treatment begins. Learn More
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) TRICARE covers medication-assisted treatment, which combines medication and mental health therapies for the treatment of substance use disorder. We offer MAT including Buprenorphine and Vivitrol for patients working through substance use challenges.
Telehealth / Virtual Psychiatry TRICARE pays the same rate for secure video and audio-only therapy. That means wherever you are in North Carolina, you can connect with one of our providers by video from home — no drive required, same coverage.
Outpatient Programs TRICARE covers intensive outpatient programs and partial hospitalization programs when your provider determines that a higher level of care is needed. Here’s what we offer:
Not sure how your TRICARE plan works? North Carolina falls under the TRICARE East Region, managed by Humana Military. You can reach them at 1-800-444-5445 or visit the TRICARE website — or just contact us and we’ll help you figure it out before your first visit.
TRICARE’s cost structure is different from commercial insurance. Here’s a general breakdown based on plan type:
TRICARE Prime — Active Duty Members Mental health visits, including therapy and psychiatry, are covered at $0 when seen in-network.
TRICARE Select — Group A (sponsors who joined before January 1, 2018) After meeting an annual deductible, you pay 20% cost-share for in-network mental health visits.
TRICARE Select — Group B (sponsors who joined on or after January 1, 2018) Same structure as Group A — 20% cost-share after your annual deductible is met.
TRICARE For Life Works alongside Medicare. Medicare covers 80% and TRICARE covers the remaining 20%, leaving most beneficiaries with no out-of-pocket cost for covered services.
Cost details are based on 2025 TRICARE rates. Always verify your specific plan costs at tricare.mil or by calling Humana Military.
