Expert Mental Health Care Covered by Aetna

Expert Mental Health Care Covered by Aetna

Too many people put off getting help with their mental health because they assume it’s going to be complicated, expensive, or hard to access. At Advaita Integrated Medicine, we want to change that. We’re in-network with Aetna and have providers across three Triangle-area locations — with appointments typically available within a week.

Whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, bipolar disorder, or something else, our team is here to get you where you want to be in life. We’ve built a practice around one simple idea: expert mental health care should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford to pay out of pocket.

Aetna Covered Psychiatrists & Providers at Advaita Integrated Medicine

Aetna Covered Psychiatrists & Providers at Advaita Integrated Medicine

Our providers work with Aetna plans across a full spectrum of mental health needs. Here’s who you’ll find on our team:

Psychiatrists Psychiatrists are fully licensed medical doctors who have completed specialized training in mental health. They assess and diagnose mental health conditions, develop treatment plans, and prescribe and manage psychiatric medications.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) PMHNPs can do everything you’d expect from a psychiatrist — evaluate your symptoms, reach a diagnosis, and manage your medications. They just got there through a nursing background instead of medical school. The level of care you receive is exactly the same.

Psychiatric Physician Assistants (Psychiatric PAs) Psychiatric PAs are highly trained clinicians who work exclusively in mental health. They can evaluate symptoms, reach a diagnosis, and manage medications. Like our PMHNPs, Psychiatric PAs deliver the same standard of personalized, high-quality care you’d find across our entire team.

Therapists / Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) Our therapists and LCSWs work with you through talk therapy and evidence-based counseling approaches. They’re skilled in helping people work through a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges.

Every provider we bring on — regardless of their title or credential — is here because they’re genuinely good at what they do and deeply committed to patient care. We’ve intentionally built adiverse team so that we can match you with the right provider for your specific situation, not just whoever happens to be available.

Does Aetna Cover Mental Health Services?

Does Aetna Cover Mental Health Services?

Yes — under federal law, Aetna is required to cover mental health and substance use services at the same level as physical health care. Your specific coverage, copays, and out-of-pocket costs will depend on the plan you’re enrolled in.

Here’s what Aetna typically covers:

Psychiatry & Medication Management Initial psychiatric evaluations, medication check-ins, and ongoing follow-up visits are covered under most Aetna plans. Depending on your plan, a copay or deductible may apply — but staying in-network with a provider like us is the most reliable way to keep those costs down.

Therapy & Counseling Aetna covers individual therapy, group therapy, and family counseling on most plans. Session limits can vary, but when treatment is deemed medically necessary, many plans will continue coverage for as long as your provider recommends.

TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) TMS is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain connected to mood — with no medication required. Aetna covers TMS for patients who meet clinical criteria, typically those who haven’t responded well to antidepressants. Our team will confirm your eligibility and verify coverage before treatment begins.

Telehealth / Virtual Psychiatry Most Aetna plans cover virtual mental health visits, meaning you can connect with your psychiatrist or medication provider by video from wherever you are in North Carolina — your home, your office, anywhere that works for you.

Outpatient Programs For those who need a more structured level of support than weekly appointments can provide, Aetna covers the following programs when clinically recommended:

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) — Our most intensive outpatient option for substance use. Full-day, structured programming while you return home each afternoon.
  • Substance Use IOP — A step down in intensity from PHP, offering consistent, focused support for addiction and mental health while keeping your daily routine intact.
  • Mental Health IOP — Structured group-based mental health treatment designed for people who need more than weekly therapy but don’t require round-the-clock care. Commonly used for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, and more.

Not sure what your Aetna plan covers? Flip your insurance card over and call the member services number — or reach out to us directly and we’ll pull your benefits before your first visit so you’re never caught off guard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Advaita Integrated Medicine in-network with Aetna?

Yes. Advaita Integrated Medicine is in-network with Aetna. We accept most Aetna commercial plans. Because plan types and coverage details vary, we recommend reaching out to us directly so we can confirm your specific benefits before you come in.

What is the difference between in-network and out-of-network coverage?

When you see an in-network provider like Advaita Integrated Medicine, Aetna has a negotiated rate agreement with us — which means your share of the cost (your copay, coinsurance, or deductible) is significantly lower than it would be with an out-of-network provider. Out-of-network providers operate outside that agreement, so Aetna may cover a smaller portion of the bill — or in some cases, nothing at all. For mental health care specifically, this matters a lot. Psychiatric care and therapy typically involve regular, ongoing appointments. A difference of even $30–$50 per visit between in-network and out-of-network costs adds up fast over the course of a year of treatment.

What is the cost of therapy in North Carolina with Aetna?

Your actual cost will depend on your specific Aetna plan, but here’s a general idea of what in-network therapy typically looks like: Individual therapy: $0–$60+ per session Group therapy: $0–$40+ per session If you’re early in your plan year and haven’t met your deductible yet, you may pay more upfront. Once your deductible is met, your regular copay or coinsurance rate applies. We’ll walk you through your specific benefits estimate before your first session.

What is the cost of psychiatry in North Carolina with Aetna?

Psychiatric visit costs vary depending on your plan and the type of appointment: Initial psychiatric evaluation: $0–$150+ (after deductible/copay) Follow-up medication management visit: $0–$75+ per visit These ranges reflect typical in-network costs for Aetna members. Your exact cost depends on your plan’s cost-sharing structure. We verify Aetna benefits before every new patient’s first appointment so you always know what to expect before you walk in the door.
