Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Melissa “Misa” Davis, PMHNP-BC, is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Advaita Health.
She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Duke University School of Nursing, graduating with honors, and completed a postgraduate psychiatric nurse practitioner residency through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Misa spent more than 10 years working in critical care nursing, including the ICU, Emergency Department, and psychiatric emergency care.
Throughout her nursing career, Misa developed a passion for working with people experiencing mental health and substance use concerns. Her experience in high-acuity settings taught her the importance of meeting people with curiosity, compassion, and respect, particularly during some of the most difficult moments in their lives.
She is also a DAISY Award recipient, recognized for compassionate care and kindness, and has spent time mentoring and precepting nurses throughout her career.
Misa’s approach to psychiatric care begins with getting to know the person in front of her. She takes time to understand each patient’s history, current concerns, priorities, and what they want their life to look like.
From there, she works collaboratively with patients to develop individualized treatment plans that may incorporate medication management, lifestyle changes, therapy, and strategies drawn from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Her clinical interests include substance use disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, insomnia, anxiety, and thought disorders. Misa also has experience working with veterans through her VA residency and is passionate about providing affirming care to LGBTQIA+ individuals.
She strives to create an environment built on trust, mutual respect, genuine curiosity, and acceptance so patients can begin wherever they are.
Outside of work, Misa spends as much time outdoors as possible. She enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, camping, hiking, paddleboarding, painting, and reading. She also loves spending time with her husband and daughter and caring for a household that includes a dog, cat, fish tanks, chickens, bees, a beetle terrarium, and an ant farm.
