The Benefits of Integrative Wellness Coaching
When it comes to mental health and wholeness, many people believe they can soldier through
symptoms of depression, anxiety, or other concerns on their own. However, the mind and body
are two halves of the same whole person and an integrated approach to wellness is often
necessary for achieving total healing. Integrative wellness coaching helps empower people to
prioritize their mental health in order to optimize their true potential.
What is Integrative Wellness Coaching?
Integrative wellness coaching is a collaborative client-centered approach that focuses on the physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of the whole of an individual. The approach is relational — coaches form partnerships with their clients — in order to enable the individual to activate their native capacity for healing, change, and growth. Integrative wellness coaching acknowledges that the mind and body are interdependent and a person’s fullest potential cannot be achieved without a whole-person approach to healing and growth.
Coaching begins with an assessment of where the person is currently and where they want to go. To inform and individualize treatment, coaches will work with the client to help them articulate:
- Which areas of the individual’s life and wellbeing are being affected by mental health concerns
- Triaging goals; what areas should be a primary and secondary focus
- What are the aspirational and realistic goals; discovering what is important to the client
- Why mental health and wellbeing are important to the client
Integrative wellness coaches provide individuals who are struggling with the effects of mental health disorders toward more constructive courses of action, such as going to therapy and engaging in holistic practices like yoga and mindfulness. Along the way, coaches provide their clients with an abundance of support, guidance, and motivation.
