Psychiatrist

Dr. Tim O’Connor is a board certified adult psychiatrist at Advaita Integrated Medicine, which is part of the Advaita Collective. Dr. O’Connor completed his medical education and psychiatric residency at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to his particular clinical interest in mental health issues impacting university students, he has experience working with patients with a wide variety of mental health concerns. As a Raleigh native, he is excited to be part of the Advaita Collective team and to play a role in their mission to serve the local community by providing holistic patient-centered mental healthcare.

His background in education instilled an appreciation of the tremendous capacity for growth inherent in every person. He was drawn to the practice of psychiatry as a way of helping individuals recognize and actualize this potential. With experience treating a broad range of mental health issues, he enjoys collaborating with patients to customize therapeutic goals in accordance with their individual values and priorities. Utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), insight oriented therapy and psychopharmacology, he strives to assist patients in cultivating greater self-awareness and balance in their daily lives.

He values patient autonomy; encouraging patients to ask questions about their care and challenge their healthcare providers when recommended interventions feel suboptimal. The pursuit of mental health requires that we give attention to the whole self, cultivating habits that support cognitive, emotional, physical and spiritual wellness. As medicine trends towards increasing specialization, he is excited to work alongside the Advaita Integrated Medicine team on their mission to provide genuinely integrated care.
