Raleigh, NC –Advaita Integrated Medicine (AIM) is thrilled to announce the addition of James Dowd, PA-C to our team of psychiatry providers in Raleigh. With a specialized background in psychiatry and five years of experience in outpatient mental health, James is excited to offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and lifestyle-focused care to our patients both in-person and through Telehealth. Starting on December 12, 2024, James will be accepting new patients at our Raleigh location and via online sessions.

A Patient-First Approach Rooted in Communication and Trust

James Dowd is known for his commitment to strong patient-provider relationships, believing that effective communication is at the heart of great care. James shares, “My biggest strength is communication. I am often referred to as the ‘medication guy who actually wants to talk to me.’” He is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming environment where patients feel understood and supported. His approach is not just about managing symptoms but about truly getting to know each patient to tailor the most effective treatment.

James integrates psychiatric care with practical lifestyle changes, emphasizing the benefits of regular exercise, positive self-talk, and building healthy routines. His holistic approach goes beyond medications, incorporating lifestyle improvements to support overall well-being.

Bringing Expertise in Advanced Treatments and Outpatient Mental Health Care

James’ clinical expertise includes experience with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato for treatment-resistant depression, providing valuable options for patients who haven’t found relief with traditional treatments. A graduate of Chatham University, James has spent his entire career in outpatient settings, working closely with patients to address mental health conditions in ways that fit seamlessly into their lives.

James also holds a background in Athletic Training from Denison University, adding a unique perspective on the importance of physical health and movement in mental wellness. As a licensed Physician Assistant, James treats a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, and more, with a personalized focus on building supportive routines for each patient.

Outside the Office: Active, Engaged, and Always Learning

When he’s not with patients, James stays active and connected with nature. Whether he’s weightlifting, hiking, playing ultimate frisbee, or running with his dog, James finds daily movement essential to his own well-being. His ideal weekend? Camping in the mountains, attending live concerts, or tackling outdoor projects. James brings this active, down-to-earth spirit into his practice, encouraging patients to discover fulfilling hobbies and activities as part of their mental wellness.
